Cleaning can be described as the need to remove material (rust, paint, surface deposits) to restore the original surface finish or remove (lock) the material before sanding. This process can be achieved by using various types of wires or abrasives.
Wire brush: Twisted wire brush wheels are ideal for brushing welded joints and brush corners. Angled brushes are designed for hard-to-reach areas such as bristles, with diameters of 115mm, 125mm and 178mm. A cup-shaped wire brush can also be used for cleaning mainly flat or lightly contoured surfaces. Cup-shaped wire bushings can use strong twist or crimping wires with diameters of 65mm, 80mm and 100mm. Care should be taken in determining the type and size of the brushes, as their maximum speed may not be suitable for smaller angle grinders. Wire brushes with kinks are usually fixed to the angle grinder by fixing nuts, while the M14 thread of the cup brush is suitable for angle grinders of 115mm and above.
Cleaning flannel: Ideal for use on metals such as stainless steel, wood and plastic. They are made of nylon fibers interwoven with silicon carbide abrasive and synthetic resin, and are lightly hardened and coated on a glass fiber backing with diameters of 115mm, 125mm, and 180mm, respectively. Ideal for removing old paint, rust and welding spatters without scratching the surface of the workpiece, cleaning and smoothing wood and plastic. More durable ceramic abrasives can also be used.
