An abrasive flap disc helps you grind and polish a metal surface with a tool attachment. The abrasive flap discs are ground like a pressed center wheel, and the finish is like a fiber sanding disc – helping you reduce machining time and reduce total grinding costs.
Technically, the Type 27 flat cover valve has a flat cover design and provides optimum finish. These are often the most popular and most commonly used. Type 27 flaps are mainly used on flat surfaces and they are ground at a flat angle of 0° to 15°.
The Type 29 conical disc is a more aggressive option with a flap angle of 10°. This angle provides greater surface contact. The Type 29 flap can be used on irregular and flat surfaces and can be ground at a steep angle of 15° to 25°.
Select a Type 29 angled flap to remove the stock faster. The sloping edges can be used for vertical or horizontal grinders. The beveled edges allow more abrasive flap discs to come into contact with the metal surface, helping you to strip and finish in less time.
The abrasive flap disc is most commonly used for right angle grinders and vertical axis portable grinders. You may be using a tool such as the Walter 30A161 4-1 / 2 ” Right Angle Grinder or Dynabrade 53232 Vertical Down Center Grinder.
The reason why we only provide high quality flaps is because we found that the poor quality flaps on the market are easy to “break” and vibrate during the grinding process. This can cause the sand to prematurely pull away from the mount, giving you irregular sanding, poor sanding, short life and potential flap tear. The AA abrasive flaps are made from high quality zirconia alumina particles on a phenolic backing. Zirconia-alumina is most suitable for the removal of medium and heavy materials. The grains continue to rupture, creating new sharp edges. The flaps made of zirconia-alumina are commonly used in carbon steel, aerospace alloys, nickel alloys, aluminum, cast iron, forgings and certain stainless steels. These flaps are made in the United States.
If you use a flapper – try our high quality flapper series. Our most popular flaps are 4-1 / 2″ and 7″ zirconium with 7/8″ shank holes.
